Variable rate plans offer you more flexibility and potentially lower costs depending on what the market is doing. The variable rate plan is based upon the wholesale cost that we as an Atlanta electric company pay for electricity. The rate is determined at the beginning of each month, then passed on to you as a customer. When the market value of electricity is lower, you pay much lower rates.
There is no contract for this rate plan. You can enjoy low rates for as long as they last on the open market. If the cost of power rises, then of course you may want to switch to a fixed rate plan that will lock you in at a set rate that is based on market averages as opposed to market fluctuations.
