About MXenergy

MXenergy  is a retail supplier of natural gas and electricity, serving 15 deregulated territories in the United States and two in Canada. The company headquartered in Stamford, CT was founded in 1999 by Jeffrey Mayer who currently serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and President, Robi Artman-Hodge who served as the company’s first Chief Financial Officer and as Executive Vice President until 2010, and Daniel Burke, MXenergy company’s first Chief Operating Officer. Over its 11-year history MXenergy  has undergone significant growth and change with the dynamic energy market

The first headquarters for this company was established in Louisville, KY. In 2000 the Stamford, CT office was opened to house executive management, finance and accounting. That year MXenergy purchased supply contracts for 20,000 customers from Keyspan Energy which provides electric and gas service in the New York Metropolitan area, upstate New York, and parts of New England. The following year MXenergy  relocated its operational hub from Louisville, KY to Annapolis Junction, MD. This location currently serves as the company’s principal call center.

Adding another chapter to its company history, This company purchased books of business from Louisville-based Summit Energy and Energy.com in 2001. By 2002 the company began serving consumers behind Consumer Gas in Michigan and the Northern Indiana Public Service Commission. Rapidly increasing its customer base, MXenergy completed an asset purchase agreement with NICOR Gas in Indiana and Ohio in 2003. That same year the company began servicing customers in New Jersey as part of its retail network.

MXenergy entered the Canadian market in 2004 behind the Enbridge Natural Gas System in Ontario. 2004 was an important year in the company’s history as it initiated its electricity supply business and purchased Total Gas & Electric, a subsidiary of Star Petro. Growth continued over the next several years as MXenergy continued to acquire customers and expand into new regions. In 2005 MXenergy expanded its New York State service by entering the Rochester Gas & Electric market and acquired Shell Energy Service Company the next year, moving principle operations to Houston, TX.

MXenergy reached a major milestone in 2006 by being named in Inc. Magazine’s list of fasting growing private companies in America. That year MXenergy was ranked fourth on the list based on revenue growth and 370th on the basis of growth rate.

Growth continued through the end of the decade for the company. In 2007 customer contracts were purchased from Vantage Power Services. MXenergy also began servicing customers of United Illuminating and Connecticut Light & Power that year. The company penetrated the Georgia market in 2008 by acquiring Gaskey, one of the state’s major suppliers.
Pennsylvania became MXenergy’s newest market in 2010. The company began providing service to PPL, formerly known as Pennsylvania Power & Light, and PECO, formerly known as Philadelphia Electric Company. This year they also began service to customers of Pacific Gas & Electric.

Mxenergy’s history of acquisition and service has grown its territory to include natural gas and/or electricity service to the states of Georgia, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland and California, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.

Gaskey Pre Acquisition History
Since 1985, PS Energy Group has marketed natural gas behind the Atlanta Gas Light System. In 1998 PS Energy introduced the brand name, GasKey, as a certified supplier of natural gas to residential and small to mid-sized businesses in deregulated retail markets.
